Britax Frontier ClickTight
Britax Frontier ClickTight is one of the safest high-end booster seat. Most parents goes from a convertible car seat right into a high-back or even a no-back booster seat. But that’s not recommended. For the reason that the child needs not only to reach the height and weight limit of a booster but he/she also have to have the maturity. In order to put your child in a booster he/she needs to be able to sit in the seat properly and be properly harnessed every time even while sleeping. So it’s not the best case for your 5 year old kid.
Britax Frontier ClickTight is combination of high-back booster and 5-point harness. In this model you do still have a 5-point harnes and that’ what’s going to keep a child contained in the event of a car accident. The Britax Frontier ClickTight has weight capacity of 120 lbs. So you really can use this until your child can seat directly on the vehicle seat.
This Britax seat came out in 2008 and ClickTight system was added in 2013. Britax Frontier ClickTight can be the last seat you bought for you kid till he/she will be enough grown to sit in the car only with seat belt.
Significant upgrades in 2019 models:
- “Nanotex” and “Cool N Dry ” fabric
Let’s see the features:
- Installation and safety
The Britax Frontier ClickTight is very easy to install. Just few minutes, three steps and it’s done.
First of all you should open ClickTight – you press a little buttons in the back of the seat and release with one click. There are hidden some sort of compartment.
Second step – thread your seatbelt throw the belt path and buckle it. Make sure that there’s no excess slack before you close the ClickTight. Press back down.
Third step – you should connect the top tether on the back of the seat or in the roof or the back of the vehicle.
Certainly make sure that the seat does not move more then one inch at the belt path. Attention: then you should lock the vehicle belt by pulling it all the way out and letting it go back in and remove all slack from the belt. And ithe seat is installed. Just one-two minutes maximmum.
When you child is ready to booster seat position – you should make next steps.
Loosen the harness all the way. Further you will need to open the ClickTight panel and release seat belt. There is LATCH anchors that are hidden in this panel. You won’t use them when the seat is in the harness mode because typically if your child is over 40lbs, it’s too heavy for this mode of instalation so the LATCH system is used for booster position and the anchors position the seat so that it’s down moving around on your back seat.
First of all you pulling LATCH connectors extend the webbing by pushing the LATCH adjuster button and pulling the webbing out. Route the lower connector strap along the green belt path and firmly press the lower connectors onto their adjacent lower anchors. Then verify that the strap is not twisted, pull the end of the lower connector strap to remove slack close.
Further you will need to pull the crotch strap through. Then you store this crotch inside on the top of the button, so slide that buckle forward to the outside position and that way it’s going to sit in it’s little nook where it belongs. It’s going to sit flush. After you just push the fabric down, close this fabric panel back up, connect it with a little clips. And close ClickTight panel back down.
Almost done, but we still need to raise the headrest all the way to its top position and to hide the harness. So get the hogs in the chest clip moved all the way up and the buckle with a strap and fold it up into the side fabric panels or you can remove the harness and the rest of the harness just get tucked behind the fabric. With the headrest in it’s highest position you can see the red shoulder belt guide that makes it easy to bring the seat belt around and tuck it. Then you can adjust the headrest to whereever your child needs.
The Britax Frontier Safecell Impact protection an integrated system of safety components:Impact-absorbing base, Impact-stabilizing steel frame, Impact-absorbing harness, V-shaped absorbing tether and 2 layers of Side Impact Protection.
The Britax Frontier’s safety harness has 9 adjutable positions to adapt to your child’s growth.
So it’s no re-threading harness and you are adjusting hight only with one hand. Very easy.
Next what I like in this seat is a recline lever under the fron seat.
You can adjust the seat, it’s very convenient. I have the same system and can say that we use it rather often when George is falling asleep and we want to make the rest more comfortable for him. I even don’t go out from the car. Note: the recline lever cannot be used while in booster mode.
Further I can say that Britax Frontier has very comfy built-in arm rests and they are of sufficient height, this will make daily trip more easy for your kid.
The Britax Frontier can be purchased in several types of fabric:
- New “Nanotex” fabric. In 2019 Britax introduced a new fabric “Nanotex”, it is moisture-resistant, making it easy to wipe away spills. The main benefit is to prevent stains from setting into the seat.
This fabric is absolutely safety but it will not keep your child cool and dry.
- New “Cool N Dry ” fabric. Also the novelty from Britax. “”Cool N Dry” – is a high-performance fabric designed to wick away moisture and naturally allow air to flow. It means that your baby will stay dry during ride in the car. This fabric blends 30% bamboo charcoal with polyester, so it helps to wick the moisture and let your baby stay cool.
From my own experience in summer we had all the time the same problem with George, he was getting sweaty in his Britax car seat and after all we purchased for him speciall summer cover. So if your summer is more then couple of months in the year, I think it’s better to pay more, choose this and not to buy additional cover for the car seat.
- ” Cool Flow” – it’s ventilated mesh fabric that’s very breathable and helps cut down sweaty of babies. This might be not relevant for everyone but the parents who lives in California for example can find it out very usefull. It helps your child feel comfy.
There is only one cons, things can get trapped inside the wholes and you will need to use vacume. Of course you will need it and with other fabrics, but this one is a little harder to clean.
- Plush foam padding and fabrics for premium comfort. It’s good and soft fabric of the Frontier basic series.
The Britax Frontier has integrated cup holders.
There are pros and cons of these cupholders. The pros – you don’t need to purchase cupholder separetely and it will not take extra place in your car. But there are and cons – you will need to clean it after cookies, other snacks and spilled drinks by using a vacuum cleaner and wet cloth…

The Britax Frontier as for me is one of the best booster car seat. I really love it. First of all it has super safety technologies, undoubtely high-quality. This seat is top-rated in several consumer publications and organizations like the NTHSA. You will not need to purchase one more car seat or booster after this one. And it’s made in USA.
From other side it’s realy heavy and if you are going to travel a lot and put everyday in a different car, I think it’s not the best choice for you. Some reviews found that the headrest and the seat is harder then in other brands, but as for me, it’s really subjective and depends from the kid. The last what other people do not like in this seat is the price. Of course, it’s rather high, but let’s see from other side- you will use it around 9 years and as for me to pay $30 a year for your kids safety is not a big money. So think about it…
