Britax Advocate ClickTight
The Britax is very popular European company and they’ve been in USA (manufacture in South Carolina) for quite a few years. They’re leading in the industry for innovation and safety. Also they have their own crash test labs, so they are testing their products to make sure that they are the safest. I can say that I’m fan of Britax, we had their stroller and one of our car seat was from Britax.
Difference between Marathon, Boulevard and Advocate.
The Britax has ClickTight collection of the Convertible Car Seats: a Marathon, a Boulevard and an Advocate. They all the same size shell, the difference in these 3 car seats is in the Side Impact Protection. 25% of car accidents come from the sides. It’s really important to have your child’s head, neck and shoulders to be protected.
The Marathon, Boulevard and Advocate have outer layer shell of Side Impact Protection (SIP), but the Marathon has basic SIP ( foam lining inside of the seat + protective headrest from soft foam),
the Boulevard has SIP Plus ( foam lining inside of the seat + protective headrest from soft foam but it’s more sufficient, it’s level up compare to the Marathon)
and the Advocate has SIP Max (you have foam lining inside of the seat + side cushion technology + protective headrest from soft foam). You can add anti-rebound bar to all of these models. We decided to consider the Advocate, because the difference in price between the Marathon and Advocate are around $50, usually such Car seats are used from 4 to 8 years, so if we divide for $50 for 8 year, we will receive only few dollars a year for more safety.
In 2019 Britax introduced a new fabric “safe wash”, it means that you will have ability to take the fabric of the both shells – interior and exterior and put it into wash machine on the delycate cicle and then put it in the dryer.
It’s nice features, if your child peas or poops, or spill the juice you can easily take off the shell and wash it. From other hand, you can cover car seat with dispossal underpads matress.
Significant upgrades in 2019 models:
- “Safe Wash” fabric
The Britax Advocate weighs 30.6 lbs and designed for babies from 5 lbs and up to 65 lbs.
Let’s the features:
Installation and safety
The ClickTight system let you instal the car seat securely and confidently. You need to open the front of the car seat, then buckle the seat belt across the belt path:
- Throught the green belt path for forward-facing.
- Throught the blue belt path for rear-facing.
Make sure the seat belts in a nice straight line and not a lot of excess slack. Then click the seat shut until audible click and the logo returns horizontal. When you are installing the car seat in the forward-facing position you need to use rear tether.
You need to open rear compartment in the back and take away tether, then clip it to your car anchor. In order to check that the seat is instaled correctly, you just need to give a little tug, right at the belt path and it’s rock solid. That’s all, very easy.
The Britax Advocate has Safecell Impact protection an integrated system of safety components:Impact-absorbing base, Impact-stabilizing steel frame, Impact-absorbing harness, V-shaped absorbing tether and Side Impact Protection.
The Britax Advocate has 14-positions no re-threading harness and 2-position buckle that will let you easily move the harness upward and buckle outward for a comfortable, secure fit as your child grows.
The Britax Advocate has harness Hugs with Safecell ( grey pieces that keeps a chest buckle in a place) honeycomb design for added impact protection and energy transfer.
The Click&Safe system helps to understand how tight harness needs to be. All you have to do is pull the strap until you hear the click and the harness should be all set.
The Britax Advocate offers an infant insert for tiny babies like all other companies.
They also offers multirecline positions for comfort for baby, it’s easy to access.
The Britax Advocate has easy-to-read indicator. It shows that your child’s seat is at the proper installation angle for your vehicle.
The Britax Advocate can be purchased in several types of fabric:
- New “Safe Wash” fabric we wrote about it above.
- ” Cool Flow” – it’s ventilated mesh fabric that’s very breathable and helps cut down sweaty of babies. This might be not relevant for everyone but the parents who lives in California for example can find it out very usefull. It helps your child feel comfort. There is only one cons, things can get trapped inside the wholes and you will need to use vacume. Of course you will need it and with other fabrics, but this one is a little harder to clean.
- Plush foam padding and fabrics for premium comfort. It’s good and soft fabric of the Advocate basic series.
If you would like to add even more safety you can got the option to add an Anti-Rebound-Bar(sold separately). The ARB can be used only in rear-facing mode. It would reduce the rebound effect of a rear-facing seat by about 40% during a collision, so that’s huge. It cost around $39,99 and if you are thinking between cupholder and anti-rebound-bar I would advice to purchase ARB, I think it’s must-have addition for small babies.
- Rear-facing specifications: 5 to 40 lbs; 49″ or less; suggested for children up to at least 2 years
- Forward-facing specifications: 20 to 65 lbs; 49″ or less; suggested for children 2 years and older
- Product size: 20.5″ W x 23.5″ H x 23″ L
- Product weight: 30.6 lbs
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all infants and toddlers should ride in a Rear-Facing Car Seat until they are 2 years of age or until they reach the highest weight.
The Britax Advocate Clicktight is available in 4 colors: Venti, Kate, Mosaic and Otto(safe wash).
The Britax Advocate Clicktight ARB is available in 3 colors: Circa, Cool Flow – Teal, Cool Flow – Grey. New Cool Flow collection available from the end of July 2018. This new ventilated mesh fabric improves
air flow keeping baby cooler and more comfortable.
I really love Britax for their safety system and I like that they manufactures their car seats in USA. So they know what americans need.
A lot of parents say that this convertible car seat is a little bit heavy but that’s because of the steel frame and some of the safety features. Probably if in your family more then one car and you need to install this seat everyday in different car, yes, this is a cons. But if you are going to install it only in one car, I think you should’nt worry about it. Other small cons is the size of this car seat. It’s alittle bit bulky and will take a lot of space if you have small car. The last cons as I think is no cupholder included, not a big deal, but the price is rather high and they could add such accesoire for more comfort for the kid and parents.
From other side there are a lot of pros. First is the safety and I can say that it’s the most important point. Other is a new “safe wash” fabric which makes cleaning fast and npt causing problems. Also I really like ARB option, next thing is super easy and secure instalation. So you read all we wanted to write and I hope you will make the right choice.
